Last year towards the end of April, beginning of May, I started working out again at the YMCA. I've reached the point now where I look forward to going- most of the time- because I like the benefits of exercise. Mostly, I enjoy that I sleep better on nights that I exercise. It's a nice perk.
Usually, I use the elliptical. But lately I've taken to using the treadmill more and actually making the attempt to run. I normally just use a really steep incline and walk quickly. But recently I've began using no incline but running. I actually ran for 10 straight minutes the other day- a personal record. I'm really proud of myself for even trying. I typically stop running and switch back to walking after just 2 or 3 minutes. Again, I'm really proud of myself for trying.
But here's the really funny part. If I go work out on Saturdays, I tend to go first thing in the morning. If I go throughout the week, I'll go after work. I've attempted to run both times. Apparently I can only run for lengthy periods of time on Saturday mornings. Random I know, and there's likely no correlation, just felt it was worth mentioning.
Howie's guessing that within 5 years I'll want to run a marathon. At this point I doubt that, but who knows? I suppose we'll find out!
So I'm sure a whole blog post on when I'm able to run isn't that interesting, but, nonetheless, it's now a documented part of my life. Here's to keeping up with my exercise habit in the new year- at least this month I'm going to get a free long-sleeved t shirt courtesy of the YMCA for committing to exercise at least three times a week over the past month. Good times.
