I Celebrate the Day

I absolutely LOVE Christmas music. I'd probably listen to it year-round, but then I think it would lose what truly makes it special- that being the celebration of Jesus' birth. I enjoy all the non-religious Christmas songs just as much as everyone else, but one song that I'm falling in love with this year (b/c yes, I am unashamedly listening to Christmas music already, and have been for a little over a week now) is Relient K's "I Celebrate the Day" from their cd "Let it snow baby, let it reindeer."

Here are the lyrics:

And with this Christmas wish is missed
The point I could convey
If only I could find the words to say to let You know how much You've touched my life
Because here is where You're finding me, in the exact same place as New Year's eve
And from a lack of my persistency
We're less than half as close as I want to be

And the first time
That You opened Your eyes did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And so this Christmas I'll compare the things I felt in prior years
To what this midnight made so clear
That You have come to meet me here

To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me
In the hope that what You did
That you were born so I might live
To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me

And I, I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day pray for You to save my life

Wow! How could you not celebrate the day of Jesus' birth after reading this? Can you even imagine what Mary must have been experiencing at Jesus's birth? Knowing that He did come to save everyone and that He would in fact change the world FOREVER.

This song really causes me to take a step back and evaluate where I am and how I'm walking with the Lord. I'm starting to realize that though my job is challenging at times, God is using it to satisfy my missions-oriented heart in a way that I never imagined. I've also started realizing that while I cannot always share God at work with my clients, I have been able to live out my faith in a way that they recognize it, and subsequently bring up God (which means I can then talk with them about Him). So of course I have many reasons to "celebrate the day".

Do you? Are you celebrating the day?
