Wisdom to be Teachable

In Sunday School today we continued our study in Proverbs. Today we talked about the difference between wisdom and foolishness, and we read several passages throughout Proverbs on the subject. One verse in particular really stuck out to me:

Proverbs 18:2
(NIV) A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

(ESV)A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

(NASB)A fool does not delight in understanding,But only in revealing his own mind.

(MSG)Fools care nothing for thoughtful discourse;all they do is run off at the mouth.

(NLT)Fools have no interest in understanding;they only want to air their own opinions.

I think this verse really goes to show how careful we need to be when we speak, especially if we're sharing our own opinions. Yes, there are times when sharing your own opinions, etc. is needed, but there are ways to do it without being foolish.

We also talked about accountability and being able to accept someone's correction of us when we've acted foolishly. One person shared of asking for an opinion to find out areas to improve. Someone else shared about how they would be willing to accept correction more easily from someone whom they respect. Along with the above verse, our willingness to accept correction, and be teachable will help in the long run as we grow closer to God.

Anyway, these are just some rambling thoughts of mine, but I felt like sharing about class this morning.
